My husband and I had made the decision to utilize a Doula early on in my pregnancy. I started doing research on local Doula services when we met Althea’s son at Lowe’s. He noticed I was pregnant and asked if I had considered using a Doula, if I knew what one was, and handed me his Mom’s card. Althea’s name had been on several of the lists I had seen and figured this was a sign we should meet her. Althea met with us to discuss our needs and perspectives and honored our preferences in care. She met with us a couple of times prior to our son’s delivery day to review and explore our birth preferences and develop a birth plan. Having a doula’s services was so helpful for us during the delivery process. My husband was so nervous he hardly knew what to do with himself, and Althea there to help us with keeping him focused, changing positions for me, and trying different positions and techniques, and interacted with hospital staff, which was a great service. Althea checked in with us after our hospital discharge and we also had a couple of follow-up phonecalls from her to ensure we were comfortable with our new roles as parents. I would recommend a Doula, and specifically Althea, to any Mom!

My husband & I were so glad we had Althea as a doula for my pregnancy & delivery. She showed genuine concern & caring for the ongoing changes that pregnancy brought us. I had no idea just how much of an additional support she would be for my pregnancy in addition to the delivery (and we didn't even decide on her until 5-6 weeks to my due date). And when it came time for delivery, she had a calming influence on us and enabled me to feel more strength in delivering my baby naturally. Althea also seemed to have so many helpful resources and connections to help answer any questions or challenges we faced, which gave me more confidence for my pregnancy & delivery. I would recommend Althea to anyone & would be surprised by anyone who wouldn't feel comfortable & grateful with her as their doula.

My husband and I were planning a home-birth, but when our precious daughter decided to make her entrance into this world 4 weeks early, our delivery location changed to the hospital. Althea was there with me throughout my labor. She encouraged me. She coached me. She controlled my fiesty brother. :-) She helped set a calm tone in my delivery room. She massaged my back through my nasty back-labor...talk about heavenly! When I was "pushing", she leaned over and whispered in my ear how I could push more effectively. That was exactly what I needed. My family had never heard of doulas before and they still talk about how amazing Althea was and how everyone needs to have a doula. Althea is a God-send. I can't imagine having another baby without Althea by my side. She is an absolutely amazing doula, has a delightful personality, and anyone would be blessed to have her at their side.
