With my most recent pregnancy, I initially had no intent of hiring a doula. I was referred by my chiropractor, who said if I was trying for a VBAC that Diane was the person I needed to talk to.
I thought it couldn't hurt to meet with Diane and see if her services could be beneficial to me. She took a great deal of time to talk with my husband and I about the birth of my son, who was delivered by c-section. I already knew from my research that I was going to get some push back from the OB group if I wanted to deliver in a hospital, and Diane explained how she could help us navigate that process. We pretty much knew immediately that we wanted to hire her to assist with the labor and delivery of our next child.
Diane was a knowledgeable resource during my pregnancy, and was a great source of comfort and support when I needed someone to talk to about a rough appointment. During my actual labor, I cannot sing her praises enough. My husband is a wonderful, caring support person, but he does not know what a contraction feels like, or really how to help. Diane helped me stay at home to labor as long as possible. Her encouraging words helped me to refocus anytime I felt like I was losing control. She was constantly suggesting position changes and vocalizations I could do to make me feel more comfortable, as well as make labor more productive. I didn't encounter many roadblocks in the hospital since I arrived in a very active labor pattern. There were some hiccups, and Diane helped take control of the situation so I could continue to focus only on labor. She kept cheering me on and reminding me of the end goal when I was tired and didn't think I could do it any longer. My daughter was born via VBAC, and I don't know what might have happened without her support throughout labor. She has an amazing intuition to know what to do in each moment, and it all felt completely natural, like I had known her my entire life. I highly recommend her services.
Working with Diane was nothing short of wonderful. Diane's wealth of knowledge and resources, as well as her calming, natural presence put our minds at ease during my pregnancy, labor and birth of our son. Diane supported our wishes and was our strongest advocate as we planned our first natural birth at home. She knew exactly how to support my family and me emotionally and physically during this special time in our life. She was, without question, an integral part of our birth experience.
