Client Testimonials for Jennifer @
Lily M
I would like to share my wonderful experience in having a Postpartum Doula. I had a scheduled C-Section due to problems with my back. I would have preferred to have a doula and midwife, but since I was not going to be going through labour, I was pleasantly surprised that I could at least have extra support from a Postpartum Doula.
Many of the staff at the hospital told me to expect additional challenges with brestfeeding due to having had the C-Section. I was really hoping to be able to breastfeed, and to not have to supplement with formula. The day after I was released from the hospital, a public health nurse visited our home while Jennifer was also present. The nurse was very firm in telling us that we needed to supplement with formula, even though there was no real need to do it, and my husband and I also did not wish to do so unless strictly necessary. We felt extremely bullied by her approach.
Our Doula, Jennifer, was a wonderful support when it came to advocating for us. It is very hard when you have just had a new baby, you are tired, overwhelmed and not thinking clearly. I felt it was easier just to give in, than to have to stick up for my rights. Thanks to Jennifer, we stood our ground and were able to stick to our beliefs, and we are happy to say that our girl was exclusively breastfed and we did not have the need for supplementing at all.
We also do not really have any family in the city, so Jennifer was a great help in the first few days while we got to know our sweet baby girl. She showed us how to give our baby a bath, how to change diapers, taught us about cloth diapers and baby carriers (which we still use)
I would definitely recommend having a doula. What a valuable support she was for our new little family in those first hectic & overwhelming days!
